KUWAIT CITY, Aug 13 : Former National Assembly Speaker Ahmad Al-Sa’adoun said it is not possible to rectify the electoral rolls and to vote based on the address in the civil identification card according to the decision of the government. He pointed out such an amendment necessitates the issuance of a decree by the political leadership; otherwise, the elections will be the subject of appeals that may end in the cancellation of results.

Meanwhile, a number of citizens have unveiled their plan to stand for the 2022 parliamentary elections including retired Major General Dr Mashhour Al-Saeedi for the Fourth Constituency, Azzam Bader Al- Ameem for the Third Constituency, Attorney Abdullah Matar for the Fifth Constituency, Falah Dhahi Al-Hajeri for the Second Constituency, Ayoub Hamad Al- Khamis for the Third Constituency, Muaz Al-Duwailah for the Third Constituency, Muhammad Jassem Al-Kharafifor the Second Constituency and former candidate Marzouq Al-Hebeni. Al-Saeedi disclosed that his electoral platform includes granting two-year salary incentive to non-ranking officers at the Ministry of Defense who retired from 2010 to 2021 just like the officers.

He also promised to recommend exceptional pension and considerable incentive for Army personnel who retired from the liberation of Kuwait until 2008. According to sources, former MP Bader Al- Dahoum intends to stand for the 2022 elections based on the verdict of the Court of Cassation that allowed him to stand for the 2020 elections. However, Al-Dahoum’s parliamentary membership was annulled later as per the verdict of the Constitutional Court on the appeals filed by citizens who argued that he did not meet the requirements for standing for elections since he was convicted of offending the Amiri Entity.

In another development, former MP Osama Al-Shaheen called for urgent amendment of the law on epidemics issued in 1969. He said the bill on amending this law must ensure protecting the privacy of private houses. He said the bill must take into consideration the fact that the government purchased 650 million facemasks, spent almost KD760 million and conducted millions of PCR tests during the Covid-19 crisis; away from parliamentary monitoring.

Former MP Hamdan Al-Azmi expressed his gratitude to Minister of Defense and acting Minister of Interior Sheikh Talal Al-Khalid for the latter’s prompt response to his call to launch security campaigns in Mahboula to curb the spread of immoral crimes. He stressed the need to continue such campaigns until the area is cleaned of this negative phenomenon, which violates Islamic religion and Kuwaiti traditions. By Saeed Mahmoud Saleh Arab Times Staff
