AMMAN — Lower House member Adnan Yildar Moshooqa said that he will be presenting a memorandum, signed by deputies, calling on Prime Minister Bisher Al-Khasawneh to withdraw the draft child rights bill, Jo24 reported.
He said the move was in line with the public and lawmakers’ rejection of the bill.
He added that he would present the memo following a planned meeting of deputies later this week.
According to Moshooqa, the draft bill has negative effects on Jordanian society, and the Parliament rejected it on its first reading.
He said that while “other countries do not give attention to family bonds, Jordanians view the family and its bond as the basic value of a community, and a child must not be separated from the family and society’s values”.
So far, 14 deputies signed the document, but others will be signing during the next session before it is presented to the Lower House General Secretariat, Moshooqa said.
